Grow your own loofah sponges. They're great for showers and bath but they're also great in other areas around the house. We love using ours in the kitchen so it doesn't scratch our ceramic pots or our sink. Does you laundry room sink double as the garage outside sink like ours does? Loofahs there too to help get those extra dirty fingers clean. We know plenty of people who swear by loofahs as household cleaning products. They can be used to scrub tiles, showers, sinks, and other hard-to-clean surfaces.

Loofah sponges from the luffa gourd plant have historically been used as scrubbers.

Benefits and uses of a loofah include:

- using with soap to lather up and cleanse your skin
- exfoliating the skin on your body and face
- stimulating blood circulation while you shower or bath

Loofahs are pretty easy to grow if your in the right zone. Here in Florida they grow very well.

The Loofah commonly thought to be a sea sponge is actually a close cousin to the cucumber. It's know by many names like Loofah or spelled Luffa, the Loofah Gourd, Silk Squash, Vegetable Squash, Chinese Okra, and Dishcloth Gourd my favorite to name a few. It grows long vines with large yellow blooms, and large gourd fruit some measuring 20" by mid-summer.

When harvested at the at shorter lengths, the fruit is edible and can be cooked just like Zucchini or Squash.

If your want sponges then let your fruit grow longer, they'll turn brown on the vine and is best left on the vine until then.
